Valve senses water temperature inside valve. If water temperature rises above the safe level due to solar radiation or heat tracing failure, valve will discharge over temperature water and allow system to refill with cooler resupply water. OSHA regulations cite the ANSI Standard Z358.1 indicating that safety shower/eyewash water should not exceed 100°F.
